“More” – Amanda Hernandez

Nobody would

Have

Thought

Of her

Her with

Her

Soft

Small features

That she could

Be anything

More than

A cardboard box

With the word

“FRAGILE”

In block red letters

That if she were to explode

There would be anything

Less than the white feathers

Of an angel

Slowing

Settling

To the ground

But

She

Is

In

So

Much

Pain

She’s a skeleton

With cracking and splintering bones

Her heart, her eyelids, her shoulders

Are too heavy for her

To carry on her own

For

She

Is

In

So

Much

Pain

No one ever sees it

                                          -she wants to give up-

She dances

She sings

And there will always be stars in her eyes

How can she not be okay?

                                          -she won’t give up-

She travels to places

People never See

And cries melodies

People never Hear

-because she’s so much-

More.
