Mr. Hanauer’s first period Pre-AP World Literature class has come together to show Fossil Ridge and other people in the community the theme of divisions occur between people as a result of different ideas but human connections and acceptance can unite people with different beliefs. Their ethical claim is that divisions between people on the basis of social constructs that cause a perception of inequality are immoral and as a community we must work to acknowledge the negative effects of these divisions have and actively work to ensure everyone receives equal treatment regardless of status on the basis of these social constructs. Each student created an individual square foot of artwork in order to represent this theme relating back to the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Each piece of art also represented individual themes and ideas that the students chose to present, based on motif tracking they completed while reading the book, as well as pieces of Afghanistan culture that they researched earlier in the unit.
